Why We Love Johnstown, Ohio
Johnstown has a population of around 5149. This quaint, friendly village is located in Licking County. Johnstown is run by a seven-person village council, including their mayor, which is Charles “Chip” Dutcher. Johnstown is known for being the home of the historic William A. Ashbrook, a well-known American businessman, newspaper publisher and politician. In 1956, William Ashbrook’s son, John Ashbrook, was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives. He took his father’s previous seat. Then, in 1960 he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives as a Republican candidate. Then, during the 1972 presidential election, John Ashbrook ran against former U.S. President Richard Nixon as an alternative conservative candidate. He lost in that election. Johnstown is also the home of a famous revolutionary war soldier, John Brown. For Brown’s military services, former U.S. President Adams gave Brown four thousand-acres of land in the area in 1800.
