Why We Love New Albany, Ohio
New Albany is located in Franklin County, with a small portion in Licking County. The city is located 15 miles northeast of Columbus. In 2019, the city had a population of about 11,085. The city was first settled in 1837. Later, New Albany became a popular suburb in the Columbus area, with a unique local economy. The city was established in the center of Plain Township. There is a common belief that the city’s name “New Albany” is after Albany, New York. They say many of the original settlers migrated there from Albany. Nevertheless, during New Albany’s earliest years, the community was called “Hope.” Much of New Albany’s size and growth took place during the 1990s, because of the expansion of the Les Wexner clothing empire and the construction of his mansion in the city. The mansion is the second largest mansion in central Ohio, after the famous Longaberger mansion.
