Pataskala is located about 19 miles east of Columbus, in Licking County, Ohio. The city has a population of about 15,751. Up until 1996, Pataskala was merely a small community. Then it merged with Lima Township and this drastically increased the town’s geographic area and population. In 1851, Pataskala was laid out after the railroad was extended to the area. The city’s name is from the Delaware language; it means “licking river.” The town has had a post office in operation there since 1852. With a total area of nearly 30 square miles, Pataskala is located along the Southern Fork of the Licking River; the city is in southwestern Licking County. Pataskala is the home of two major school districts, Licking Heights Local and Southwest Licking Local schools. In addition to local food, local stores, shopping, a community swimming pool and a local golf course, Pataskala has a wide variety of things to do and see including the Sterling Theatre, which is operated by the town hall. They also have the Mead-Needham Museum, which is run by the historical society.
