Why We Love Pickerington, Ohio
This beautiful city in Central Ohio is located both in Fairfield and Franklin counties. Pickerington was originally founded in 1815. However, at that time, it was called Jacksonville; they named it after President Andrew Jackson. It kept that original name until 1827, when local residents petitioned the Ohio State Legislature to have the name changed to Pickerington, in honor of the town’s founder, Abraham Pickering. Pickerington is a suburb of Columbus. The city has an estimated population of 21,257.
With ongoing land annexation, immigration and rapid development of the Greater Columbus area continuing as it has in recent years, the city of Pickerington (like many suburbs of the city) has grown tremendously. The city is also located near Interstate 70. Today, Pickerington serves as the home of the Motorcycle Hall of Fame. In 1991, the Ohio Secretary of State certified Pickerington officially as a city. Then, in 1996, the city was designated as the “Violet Capital of Ohio” by the State of Ohio. Among the many fun things to do in Pickerington, the city features a historic downtown shopping area. Meanwhile, Violet Township is home to rolling hills, fields, forests, and log cabin homes.
