Reynoldsburg is well known throughout Central Ohio. The city is said to be the “birthplace of the commercial tomato.” Reynoldsburg is located in Franklin, Licking and Fairfield counties. This Central Ohio city has a population of 38,016. A suburb of Columbus, Reynoldsburg was originally called Frenchtown; it was given this name after John French when the city was laid out in 1831. In 1893, the village’s name was changed to its current name in honor of the local merchant, John C. Reynolds. Previously, there had already been a post office there with the name Reynoldsburg.
Today, Reynoldsburg has 6 elementary schools, 4 junior high/middle schools and 2 local city high schools. The City’s Parks and Recreation Department manages nearly 300 acres of land with a total of 9 major parks throughout the area. Additionally, the first Franklin County Metro Park was established in Reynoldsburg in 1948. Visitors of this park enjoy the Blacklick Woods and Blacklick Woods Golf Course, which is a 643-acre park featuring golf, a variety of hiking trails and one of the oldest and most historic Beech-maple forests found in all of central Ohio; they have a hill there for winter sledding during the winter, a nature center and a State Nature Preserve located inside the Blacklick Woods. The nature preserve was named after Walter A. Tucker. Currently, L Brands is the biggest employer in Reynoldsburg.
